Do vegans ever use soap?

I realize they use soap, I mean traditional soap that contains sodium tallowate. What about wax paper, crayons, margarines, paints, rubber, lubricants, candles, lipsticks, shaving creams, and other cosmetics that are made from tallow? For that matter, do they wear leather shoes or down jackets? I was wondering if they just don't eat meat that was from animals or do they refuse all other products made from the killing of animals.
