What knid of fish live in my brook?

i have some minnows in a brook behind my house and some of them have grown to actual fishing size (umm do they all do that im not a fisherman) they are a silver in color i will catch some in a trap and post a pic to tomarrow but i wanted to know if it was legal to fish them
